At first, I thought you didn’t care if I saw the ugliness in the world. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for your guidance throughout my younger years. Love, your little girl. And because I think you raised me well, I’m sure I’ll do a good job. You knew that I would be an independent woman who wants to take on the world on her own. I guess what I’m trying to say is that now that I’m going to be a mom, I can learn a thing or two about parenting from the way you raised me. Dear Dad. It’s very likely that your dad grew up in an age before the internet or computers. I never would have become successful in my field if it weren’t for you. You are the guiding force in my life and I would be lost without you. I remember how I would practically force you to play the same movie over and over again as I would scream out whatever song lyrics I could put together. I just thought you didn’t know how to have fun. And lastly, I remember how you would always look so worried when I’d go off to school or go out with my friends. Through you, I knew what a real man is. Even though you hardly smiled, the way you took care of us and provided for us showed just how much you loved us. You were the superhero of my childhood. I’m proud to say that my father is a man of strength and kindness. You protected me from immediate danger, but you never shied away from showing me just how dangerous the world could be. It only adds a little more sentimentality when they learn that the letter is from their beloved daughter. This taught me that a father will do anything to make his daughter okay again. Dad, you are and will always be my superhero, and I will forever be your little princess. While mom taught me how to talk, to walk, to count, and to read, you taught me one of the most important things I needed in life – how to laugh. Dear Dad. Dear Dad. Whenever there was something I wanted to know, I knew I could count on you to teach me. However, it’s easy to just type it up and send it as a message. Thank you for always being there for me. I would often hear people telling stories about their worries as a parent. Dear Dad. I am the woman that I am today because of you and mom. You showed me an example of what it meant to be a father and a husband to mom. But now that I am a grown woman, I have learned that you are the balance between invincibility and vulnerability. You showed me what a real father would do for his little girl, even if it’s not exactly manly. This is your daughter trying to make fun of you for a change. Some people would call this tough love. Playtimes would often be quiet, and you always encouraged me to read and study instead of dallying in frivolous activities. You’ve always been such a serious person that a smile from you was something I’d rarely see. Hugs and kisses may have been rare, but there was never a day when we didn’t have food or water or electricity. Dad, you were misunderstood for being too serious and stoic. It was then I was convinced that God knew what he was doing when He chose you to be my dad. However, there’s one person whom we’re sure would definitely appreciate a letter from you – your dad. Our dads need a little appreciation from time to time. To my stoic, serious, and diplomatic dad. Dear Dad. I know you’ll be sad because I’ll no longer be with you, but I want you to know that you are the reason I learned what love was. They know the value of a heartfelt handwritten letter. And it’s because of you that I was able to find someone who could love me almost the same as you do. Dear Dad. As a kid, I didn’t understand the meaning of your parenting style. You would hold me in your arms and tell me that everything is going to be okay. But you are also vulnerable when you need to be. I can vaguely remember when I was a little girl and you would be up all night praying to all the gods that I would finally fall asleep. Now that you are older, I just want you to know that you can be anything you want to be and I will still be the faithful daughter who will be by your side. I later learned that this was you teaching me that I won’t always get what I want in the world. And you would just let me have fun even though I’m sure you were at your wit’s end by then. Many parents these days seem so afraid of the world that they want to shield their children from it. I see that even though you weren’t as hands-on as mom, your presence showed me that you would always be there for me if I failed. Whenever there were monsters in my room, you’d scare them off with your booming voice. I love you with all my heart, dad. I can empathize with that now. So if you want to just show your love for your dear daddy, why not send him one of these heartfelt letters to show him how much you care? I can still remember those times when you would carry me on your shoulders so that I could see the beauty of the world. People think you’re way too serious, even when you’re around kids. You fulfilled every role you needed to fulfill – from being my pillar of strength to my cheerleader to my inspiration. You are proud, strong, and capable. I then realized that this isn’t how you raised me. You are the most awesome dad a daughter could ever wish for. Dear Dad. Today is my wedding day, and I will be leaving our home to start a new life with my future husband. However, I later realized that this was your way of showing me the reality of the world. A little laughter here and a smile there could encourage even the most discouraged person to push through and succeed. As I move forward in life, I always carry you with me in my heart and in my soul. You truly lit up my life, dad. I was your baby, the helpless little one whom you always had to get out of trouble. And while you weren’t a huge fan of letting us play throughout the night, I knew that you were only doing this to instill in us, even at a young age, the value of being focused on our goals. Thank you, dad, for laying the foundations for me and showing me what I need in this life. You were always the quiet, gentle presence who would guide me. My tears came easy, but your love and guidance came easier. You showed me that there is humor and happiness all over the world, and all it takes to see it all is a little shift in perspective. You taught me the value of hard work and the importance of integrity. You have taught me so much in life that I my only wish is to be able to take these lessons and do something with my life that you would be proud of. You would speak up and say what needed to be said without hesitation. On top of that, it may seem too time consuming to do compared to just sending a sweet message online. You truly are a miracle worker, dad. Letter writing is an art form that we really need to revive. But I understand that being a father means instilling life lessons on your kids that they’ll take with them forever. You taught me how to love, and because of you I had found love. I remember when I would cry my eyes out and think that my life is ruined because I did some stupid thing. You are the one person in my life who has taught me the true value of forgiveness. This taught me that a parent can never truly be angry at their child, no matter how awful they’ve been. I thought you were being a tough dad who didn’t care if I cried or got scared. Dear Dad. I guess I’ll be doing the same thing soon. I know that I’ve always been your little girl. I love you. I remember when I was a little girl, I would sit on your shoulders and feel so tall. You did think that moms would usually do like picking out my dresses, making me pancakes in the morning, and dressing up my hair before I go to school. They may not be as hands on as mothers, but their guiding presence is always there to lead the way. But now that I’m older, I realize the value of being serious and focused. And whenever there were boys who broke my young heart, you were there to comfort me and to ask me if I wanted you to slash their tires. And from an early age, you taught me how to be fearless and unafraid. These are lessons I will keep with me for the rest of my life. Also Read:  What to Say When Your Girl is Bored

I can only imagine how difficult it was to play the role of both father and mother at the same time, but you made it seem like the easiest and most natural thing in the world. People might criticize you for being too lighthearted with everything, but I could see what you were doing. I remember when I said things that hurt you, and you would smile and love me anyway. Now I understand what you were doing, and I love you all the more for it. Thank you for everything you have taught me, from the simplest life skills to the more complicated ones (such as how to stand up after facing failure). Dear Dad.
